SiRT Investigating Collision Resulting in Serious Injuries

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision that resulted in serious injuries.

Preliminary information suggests that in the early morning of October 17, 2023, Amherst Police noticed a suspicious vehicle. In an attempt to stop the vehicle, the officer activated their emergency lights. The suspect vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed. Moments later, the suspect vehicle crashed into a house resulting in serious injuries to the male driver and female passenger.

As a result of the serious injuries, in accordance with thePolice Act, Amherst Police contacted the SiRT who have assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and domestic violence or other matters of significant public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
