The province’s Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding an allegation of assault made against two Halifax Regional Police Officers.

On August 10, 2022, SiRT was contacted by Halifax Regional Police after an Affected Party (AP) made a complaint to the NS Police Complaints Commissioner about serious injuries they had sustained during their arrest a month earlier.

As part of the investigation, SiRT interviewed the AP, two civilian witnesses, and sought the opinion of a medical expert. It was determined based on the evidence gathered, the serious injury AP alleged to have sustained during their arrest was unlikely to have occurred as a result of their interaction with police.

SiRT is responsibe for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of the independent civilian director Alonzo Wright, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
