No Charges Against RCMP Officer Involved in SiRT Investigation

The province’s independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has concluded its investigation regarding an allegation of assault made against an RCMP officer.

On July 13, 2022, SiRT was contacted by a third party alleging a male RCMP officer, the Subject Officer (SO), had committed an assault against a child, the Affected Party (AP), known to him.

As part of the investigation process, interviews were conducted with several civilian witnesses including the brother and mother of the AP. The SO did not provide a formal statement to SiRT.

Based on the interviews and other information gathered during the course of the investigation, there is insufficient evidence to reasonably believe an offence was committed. Therefore, there are no grounds to consider any charges against the officer.

A complete copy of the report is available at http://sirt.novascotia.ca.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia.
