Report Released re Charge Against HRP Officer
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has released its report in relation to a charge of assault against Cst. Jason Marriott, 36, an eight-year member of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP).
The charge was laid on February 20, 2014 in relation to an assault committed on January 27, 2014 against a woman with whom Cst. Marriott had a domestic relationship. Cst. Marriott pled guilty in Halifax Provincial Court on September 22, 2014, to one count of assault arising on that date. He is due to be sentenced on December 16, 2014.
This report is released in accordance with the Police Act which requires a report to be filed within three months of the conclusion of an investigation. The investigation, which was completed October 8, had also considered whether other incidents of domestic violence may have occurred prior to January 27, 2014. The investigation recently concluded the evidence did not disclose a sufficient basis to consider any further charges.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
