Assault charges laid against CBRP officer
The province's independent Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) today released its report into allegations made against a male member of the Cape Breton Regional Police. On the morning of Saturday, August 1, 2015, SiRT was contacted by the Cape Breton Regional Police (CBRP) who reported two incidents of alleged domestic violence between a male CBRP officer and his girlfriend. SiRT’s investigation into the matter has today resulted in the laying of three charges of assault against Cst. Jefferey Hennessey, two relating to his girlfriend and a third to another woman. Cst. Hennessey is due to appear in Sydney Provincial Court on September 24, 2015.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
