Additional Charges Laid Against Former RCMP Officer

Today SiRT laid charges of obstruction of a police officer and fabrication of evidence against Craig Robert Burnett, formerly a member of the RCMP. These charges are in addition to charges of theft of cocaine, trafficking in cocaine, breach of trust, and laundering proceeds of crime that were laid against Mr. Burnett on August 4, 2016. The new charges relate to matters that arose during the investigation of the original charges.

Mr. Burnett’s next appearance in Provincial Court is in Halifax on May 8, 2017 for his preliminary inquiry.

SIRT is responsible for investigating all serious incidents involving police in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of independent civilian director Ron MacDonald, who is solely responsible for decisions respecting the laying of any charge.
