On June 3, 2017, RCMP – Lunenburg District responded to a Pleasantville, Lunenburg Co., address in relation to a complaint of an agitated male who may have threatened to take his own life. Police located the 44-year-old male in the driveway of his home. In response to actions of the male police utilized a conducted energy weapon (CEW) to subdue the male. He was then taken to hospital for a mental health assessment, and later released and returned to his home by police.

On June 5, the male was speaking to the RCMP and provided information that suggested he had suffered a bone fracture in his arm as a result of the interaction with police. Because of that information the RCMP contacted SiRT on June 6 to report the matter. SiRT opened an investigation into the circumstances of the injury at that time.
