SiRT Clears RCMP in Indecent Act and Sexual Assault Allegations

The province's Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) released its report today regarding allegations of an indecent act and sexual assault made against a member of the RCMP.

On April 12, 2023, SiRT was contacted by Truro Police Service after receiving a complaint from an Affected Party (“AP”) about an alleged indecent act and sexual assault by an RCMP officer. The incidents were alleged to have occurred on February 28, 2023, while the officer was off duty.

During the course of the investigation, evidence was collected and analyzed, and interviews were conducted with the AP and other witnesses. Based on the information gathered, it was determined that no charges are warranted.

SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and domestic violence or other matters of significant public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
