SiRT Investigating Serious Injury

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a serious injury sustained by an adult male after an attempted traffic stop.
Preliminary information suggests the following:
- On the afternoon of April 27, 2025, a member of the New Glasgow Regional Police (NGRP) attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle that was believed to be stolen.
- The vehicle fled and struck another unrelated vehicle at the intersection of Temperance and MacLean Streets in New Glasgow.
- The male driver of the vehicle fled on foot but was apprehended by police.
- He attended hospital and was diagnosed with a broken shoulder.
Due to the serious injury sustained by the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.
SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
