SiRT Investigating Collision Involving Saint John Police Force

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a collision with a male that resulted in serious injuries.

In the early hours of January 19, 2024, the Saint John Police Force (SJPF) contacted the SiRT regarding an incident where a male sustained injuries in a collision with a SJPF vehicle.  Preliminary information suggests that a marked SJPF police vehicle was travelling on City Road when it was involved in a collision with a 54-year-old man. The male was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where he remains in serious condition.

As a result of the serious injuries, in accordance with the Police Act, SJPF contacted the SiRT which has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Anyone with information about this incident please contact the SiRT at 1-850-450-2010.

The SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
