SiRT Investigating Death Following Arrest

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving the death of a man that occurred following arrest.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

  • In the early morning of March 2, 2024, the RCMP responded to an unknown 911 emergency in Bramber, West Hants.
  • During arrest, a man went into medical distress. Officers provided first aid until fire services and EHS arrived.
  • EHS declared the man deceased on scene.

In accordance with the Police Act, the RCMP contacted the SiRT which has assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call SiRT at 1-855-450-2010.

The SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of public interest that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
