The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving the serious injuries of an adult female that occurred during an interaction with the Halifax Regional Police

Preliminary Information suggests the following:

  • On September 14, 2024, police were called to a residence in Bedford, NS, regarding a domestic assault in progress.
  • When police arrived on scene, the female fled and jumped a fence, which had a significant drop on the other side.
  • The female was located shortly after and placed under arrest for obstruction.
  • Emergency Health Services arrived on scene and the female was transported to hospital. The female sustained fractures in her foot.

As a result of the serious injuries the Halifax Regional Police contacted the SiRT and an investigation commenced the next day.

The SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
