SiRT Investigating Serious Injury

The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) is investigating a matter involving a serious injury sustained by an adult male during an arrest in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

  • In the early afternoon of December 11, 2024, members of the Halifax Regional Police (HRP) were attempting to arrest a male in a Dartmouth encampment for crimes committed on December 9.
  • The male immediately fled police and then resisted arrest.
  • The male sustained an injury during the arrest. He was transported to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken collarbone.

Due to the serious injury sustained by the male, SiRT has assumed responsibility for this investigation.

 SiRT is responsible for investigating all matters that involve death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence or other matters of a public interest to be investigated that may have arisen from the actions of any police officer in Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. Investigations are under the direction and control of an independent civilian director, who has the sole authority to determine if charges should be laid at the conclusion of an investigation.
